The Swiss Data Science Center (SDSC) has been a National Research Infrastructure since 2025, evolving from a strategic focus area of the ETH domain, with EPFL and ETH Zurich as founding partners. Our mandate is to support academic groups, research institutions, hospitals, industry, and the public sector at large, including cantonal and federal administrations. We accompany and support their entire data science journey, from data collection and management to machine learning, AI, and industrialization.

The Center comprises a multi-disciplinary team of data and computer scientists and experts across various domains, with offices located in Zürich, Lausanne, and Villigen.

We are currently seeking a talented Data Scientist to join SDSC's Innovation team. Our mission is to accelerate the adoption of data science by Swiss companies, public sector organizations, and NGOs.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and test machine learning systems to address industry and public sector challenges.
  • Engage in all aspects of a data science research project, from understanding business needs to delivering proof of concepts and communicating achievements.
  • Meet customers to identify their business needs and develop targeted data science solutions.
  • Code and test the proposed solutions, communicate results to stakeholders, and compile final reports on the work completed and its outcomes.
  • Occasionally present data science results to non-technical audiences.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for candidates (m/w/d) who possess the following qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, or a related field (PhD is a plus).
  • Ability to present results to diverse audiences (both technical and non-technical).
  • Solid understanding of machine learning concepts and programming proficiency in Python, R, or a similar language.
  • 1-3 years of data science experience within the industry.
  • Fluency in (Swiss) German and English.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively, eagerness to learn new concepts and methods, and a commitment to contributing to an inclusive environment.
  • Experience in NLP, computer vision, and deep learning is advantageous.

Start Date and Duration

Start date: September 2025 or as agreed upon.

Duration: 1-year renewable.
