The SDSC has been recognized as a National Research Infrastructure since 2025, evolving from a strategic focus area within the ETH domain, with EPFL and ETH Zurich as founding partners. Our mission is to support academic groups, research institutions, hospitals, industries, and the public sector, including cantonal and federal administrations. The center guides and supports these entities throughout their entire data science journey, from data collection and management to machine learning, AI, and industrialization.

Our team consists of multidisciplinary experts in data and computer science, with offices located in Zürich, Lausanne, and Villigen. We are currently seeking a Data Scientist to join SDSC's Innovation team, dedicated to accelerating the adoption of data science among Swiss companies, public sectors, and NGOs.

About the Role

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and test machine learning systems to address challenges faced by industry and the public sector.
  • Engage in all facets of data science research projects, from business understanding to proof of concepts and communication of results.
  • Specifically, in this role, you will:
    • Meet with clients to comprehend their business needs and develop tailored data science solutions.
    • Code and test proposed solutions (Proof of Concept), communicate findings to stakeholders, and produce comprehensive reports on the work completed and associated outcomes.
    • Occasionally present data science results to non-technical audiences.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field (PhD is a plus).
  • The ability to present results to diverse audiences (technical and non-technical).
  • Solid understanding of machine learning concepts and proficiency in Python, R, or similar programming languages.
  • 1-3 years of experience in data science within the industry.
  • Fluent in (Swiss) German and English.
  • Openness to collaborative work and a keen desire to learn new concepts and methods, while contributing to an inclusive environment.
  • Knowledge in NLP, Computer Vision, and Deep Learning is a plus.
