Job Title: FIA F1 Data Engineer

As the FIA F1 Data Engineer, you will report to the Data Intelligence Team Leader. This newly created role will leverage your expertise to enhance the department's data transformation initiatives by designing, building, and deploying end-to-end data solutions. Your contributions will facilitate effective real-time trackside decisions and support the data-driven design of future sporting and technical regulations.

Based in Geneva within a dynamic Motorsport environment, you will collaborate closely with various technical teams, merging cloud architecture, software engineering, and data processing capabilities to transform complex competition data into scalable, high-performance tools.

Responsibilities

Cloud Architecture & Platform Evolution

  • Lead the adoption, development, and maintenance of cloud-based solutions for managing competition data across various FIA Championships.
  • Support cloud migration and the implementation of future competition data platform solutions to enhance data management and reduce the time-to-value journey.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of data storage solutions and standardization of access across different championships.

Data Integration & Infrastructure Scalability

  • Assist in integrating diverse data from an expanding array of sources, including time series, video, audio, and documents.
  • Ensure service uptime, performance guarantees, and scalability for both cloud and on-premise infrastructure, on and off the track.
  • Establish robust monitoring, alerting, and incident response guidelines to maintain system reliability under operational constraints.

End-to-End Product Life Cycle & Deployment

  • Own the end-to-end product life cycle, from requirement gathering and proof of concept (PoC) development to the deployment of production-ready solutions designed for scalability.
  • Design and implement usability and performance capabilities, ensuring solutions are robust, user-friendly, and adaptable to evolving needs.
  • Balance system performance with real-world operational requirements while integrating cost-optimization practices across all deployed cloud services.

Team Collaboration & Continuous Innovation

  • Collaborate closely with other Data team members and engage in regular team reviews for general tool enhancements.
  • Stay updated with technical best practices in the field and proactively propose improvements for performance, usability, and observability of our systems.
  • Actively contribute to a high-performing team by taking initiative and owning technical challenges from inception to resolution.

Qualifications

  • University degree (Master's or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in designing, implementing, and optimizing robust, scalable, and observable cloud data solutions (AWS experience is a strong asset).
  • Proven experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform / CloudFormation) and microservice architectures, including containerization and orchestration solutions.
  • Deep proficiency in version control tools, CI/CD pipelines, and scripting languages such as Python and Bash.
  • Strong understanding of architectural principles, including integration, security, networking, identity, and access management.
  • Exposure to streaming platforms (Kafka) and stream processing solutions is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn continuously, work autonomously, and collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams of varying technical expertise.
  • Fluency in English is required; knowledge of French is appreciated.
  • A strong personal interest in Motorsport and a curiosity about how data can shape the future of the sport.

This role based in Geneva may involve travel to Formula 1 championship events and occasional weekend work.
