The Role
Pala is seeking a Crude Oil & Oil Products Analyst / Trader to bolster Pala’s research team and Frontier Commodities (Frontier), a liquid commodities investment strategy backed by Pala. This high-impact position is vital to our growth ambitions, providing the opportunity to collaborate directly with the strategy’s Portfolio Managers, seasoned fundamental analysts, and our senior data scientist. The successful candidate will play a key role in generating actionable insights, supporting investment decisions, and shaping the future direction of Frontier.
Responsibilities
The role will entail:
- Conducting fundamental research on crude oil and refined products, analyzing factors such as refining capacity, inventory levels, geopolitical dynamics, and end-use demand trends;
- Developing and maintaining supply/demand models, price forecasts, and scenario analyses for key oil products;
- Monitoring and interpreting macroeconomic, geopolitical, and industrial trends affecting oil and oil products, while collaborating with the research team to develop the macro outlook;
- Generating and executing trade ideas by recommending medium- and long-term trade strategies in partnership with trading and portfolio management teams;
- Preparing and presenting regular research reports, dashboards, and briefings;
- Supporting fund marketing by creating investment material and correspondence, meeting key investors, and participating in industry events;
- Serving as a role model of accountability and teamwork for junior team members.
The Individual
The successful candidate will possess:
- At least five years of experience in oil market analysis, oil trading, or related roles (e.g., hedge fund, trading house, consultancy, oil company);
- A deep understanding of oil fundamentals, including supply chain dynamics, logistics, and regional nuances;
- Proficiency in building supply/demand models, with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including forecasting and data analysis functions;
- Excellent analytical skills, with a strong ability to distill complex data into concise, actionable insights;
- The ability to prioritize in a fast-moving, high-pressure, and constantly changing environment;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to clearly present and document results;
- A collaborative attitude, aligned with Pala’s and Frontier’s cultures of teamwork, deep trust, and accountability;
- A high sense of quality and urgency;
- Outstanding interpersonal skills;
- Excellent business English;
- Preference will be given to candidates who are EU or Swiss citizens, due to regulatory and operational considerations.
