Community Manager / Community Manageress

ETH Zürich - May 3, 2025

Join Our Team at ETH Student Project House (SPH)

At SPH, we inspire and empower students to cultivate a mindset of makers and innovators. By exploring their ideas and developing their own projects, students gain valuable hands-on experience and acquire essential skills for their future. Our ecosystem encourages students (Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral) to explore, ideate, prototype, test, and refine their concepts.

Our interdisciplinary team, comprising thirty passionate individuals, offers comprehensive support for students pursuing extracurricular projects of various types and scales. We design and manage innovative facilities, including co-working spaces, ideation areas, event venues, and a makerspace equipped with tools and resources for prototyping. Additionally, we provide personalized coaching, workshops, and access to a diverse expert network, guiding students through their journeys of exploration and creativity.

Position Available: Community Manager

As we expand our offerings, we are seeking a dedicated Community Manager to join our team. You'll work in one of the most inspiring environments at ETH Zürich, surrounded by 3D printers, whiteboards, ideation tools, self-designed furniture, and greenery.

Our locations include ETH Zentrum and ETH Hönggerberg campus, with the majority of work taking place at ETH Zentrum and at least one day per week at ETH Hönggerberg. We operate in an open space alongside our project teams, fostering an inclusive atmosphere where all members interact at eye level. Our community reflects a diverse range of backgrounds and disciplines, and we communicate in English. While many of our events and training sessions occur in the late afternoon and evening, we emphasize an agile approach in conceptualizing and delivering our offerings based on the most pressing tasks at hand.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain an active, engaged, supportive, and inclusive community among all user groups (project members, Makerspace & laboratory users) and organize community events.
  • Foster peer-to-peer learning to extend our offerings to thousands more students while ensuring constant resources.
  • Develop a concept for community growth and establish measurable approaches, conducting in-depth research on best practices in community building and peer-to-peer learning.
  • Establish and maintain an efficient internal communication strategy within the community.
  • Create and coordinate an active alumni network.
  • Oversee and coordinate all SPH activities related to community building, engaging regularly with other units and contributing to cross-functional projects.

Qualifications

  • A university degree in Social Sciences, Communication, Psychology, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in community building, developing educational programs, or creating peer-to-peer learning environments.
  • Familiarity with conducting research and analyzing best practices.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across various units with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Comfortable speaking in front of groups, engaging with individuals, and fostering community growth.
  • Self-motivated and capable of managing competing priorities while working as part of a team.

Note: Research shows that women and individuals from marginalized groups often apply only when they meet all criteria. If you believe you are qualified but do not check every box, we encourage you to apply.
