Exciting Opportunity at ETH Zurich

The Swiss federal government has approved six new National Centres of Competence in Research (NCCRs), reinforcing key strategic research areas in Switzerland. ETH Zurich proudly leads three of these NCCRs, including the NCCR “Genesis,” which presents a significant opportunity for education, cutting-edge research, and knowledge transfer to both industry and society.

About the NCCR “Genesis”

The NCCR “Genesis” explores the origin of life as a gradual transition from inanimate matter to living organisms, managed in close collaboration with the University of Lausanne (UNIL). This interdisciplinary centre unites over 100 scientists from various fields, including biology, chemistry, astrophysics, and Earth and planetary sciences.

Rather than viewing the origin of life as a sudden event, the centre's research emphasizes a gradual process. Scientists are investigating how planetary conditions allow functional biological systems to emerge from inanimate building blocks, paving the way for living organisms.

  • Interface Function: Act as a central liaison between scientific leadership, the Communication & Outreach platform, and participating universities.
