Organisation Overview

International Blue Cross (IBC) is a politically and denominationally independent non-governmental umbrella organization that unites 37 national Christian value-based organizations across Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America. IBC and its members work with some of the most excluded and vulnerable populations in the world. IBC specializes in addressing alcohol and other drug-related social and development issues through comprehensive prevention, treatment, and aftercare programs.

In addition to implementing international development and cooperation initiatives, IBC engages in alcohol policy advocacy and holds consultative status at the UN ECOSOC. The international team coordinates projects and provides guidance to our national partner organizations worldwide in their project implementation and financing. IBC is ZEWO certified and a proud member of the Community of Cooperation KoGe and INTERACTION.

Job Description

As a Communication and Fundraising Assistant, you will be based in Bern and will support the multinational secretariat team by handling various tasks at the Bern office. Your responsibilities will include:

Communications and Fundraising Work

  • Facilitate fundraising activities for the International Blue Cross through churches.
  • Assist in fundraising and project processes in collaboration with other staff members and volunteers.
  • Contribute to content creation for social media and the website, with a focus on storytelling from the field.
  • Draft and develop project documents, fundraising, and public relations materials including project descriptions, annual reports, regular project updates, program sheets, and donation letters.
  • Facilitate an online youth forum approximately every 3-4 months.
  • Engage in verbal communication by answering telephones, making calls to prospective donors, and interacting with partners and members as required through Zoom and other online platforms.
  • Support written communication efforts within the team by crafting texts for newsletters, project reports, donor reports, calls for donations, and other IBC publications.
  • Provide support to Programme Officers in project reporting and communication.

Administrative Support

  • Assist the Finance Officer with financial record keeping.
  • Support the Administrator in organizing travel for international meetings.
  • Handle correspondence including filing, maintaining address lists, and mailings.
  • Assist with secretarial tasks such as translations and managing office materials.

Representation

  • Occasionally represent IBC in meetings and engage with churches and other donors as appropriate.
  • Support the secretariat team in collaborating with institutional partners and other organizations to seek new funding opportunities.
  • Participate in occasional international travel (up to 3-5 travel days per year, or as agreed).

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform any additional tasks necessary for the smooth operation of IBC.

Job Requirements

  • Fluency in German, with very good knowledge of English and some proficiency in French. Additional languages are a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), online communication tools, and familiarity with InDesign is an advantage.
  • Strong communication, social, and networking skills.

  • A passion for working in an environment that promotes capacity building for partners to assist vulnerable people and address issues related to alcohol and other drugs.
  • Team-oriented, dedicated, and flexible.

  • Must have a valid permit to work in Switzerland (no sponsorship required).
  • This is a junior position suitable for Bachelor and Master students in social sciences, communication, development cooperation, and related fields.
