Organisation Overview
International Blue Cross (IBC) is a politically and denominationally independent non-governmental umbrella organization that unites 37 national Christian value-based organizations across Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America. IBC and its members dedicate themselves to serving some of the most excluded and vulnerable individuals worldwide. IBC specializes in addressing social and development issues related to alcohol and substance abuse through an array of prevention, treatment, and aftercare programs.
In addition to executing international development and cooperation initiatives, IBC advocates for alcohol policy reform and holds consultative status at the UN ECOSOC. The international team coordinates projects and provides guidance to our national partner organizations in the execution and funding of said projects. IBC is ZEWO certified and a proud member of the Community of Cooperation KoGe and INTERACTION.
Job Description
As a Communication and Fundraising Assistant, based in Bern, you will assist the multi-national secretariat team with various tasks required at the Bern office. Your responsibilities will include:
Communications and Fundraising Work
- Facilitating church fundraising initiatives for International Blue Cross.
- Supporting fundraising and project processes in collaboration with other staff members and volunteers.
- Assisting in content creation for social media and the website, particularly by telling stories from the field.
- Drafting and developing project documents, fundraising materials, and public relations content such as project descriptions, annual reports, and donation letters.
- Facilitating an online youth forum approximately every 3-4 months.
- Managing verbal communication: answering phone calls, reaching out to prospective donors, and engaging with partners and members via Zoom and other online platforms.
- Contributing to written communication by assisting the team in preparing newsletters, project reports, donor reports, calls for donations, and other IBC publications.
- Supporting Programme Officers with project reporting and communication tasks.
Administrative Support
- Assisting the Finance Officer with financial record keeping.
- Supporting the Administrator in organizing travel for international meetings.
- Handling correspondence: filing (box and bexio), maintaining address lists, mailings, etc.
- Providing support for secretarial work (translations, office mail, materials, etc.).
Representation
- Occasionally representing IBC in meetings and engaging with churches and other donors as appropriate.
- Supporting the secretariat team by collaborating with institutional partners and other organizations to identify new funding opportunities.
- Participating in occasional international travel (maximum of 3-5 travel days per year or as agreed).
Other Responsibilities
- Carrying out any other tasks necessary for the smooth operation of IBC.
Job Requirements
- Fluency in German, with strong English skills and knowledge of French considered an asset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, online communication; knowledge of InDesign is a plus.
- Excellent communication, social, and networking abilities.
- Honesty, trustworthiness, precision, and strong organizational skills.
- Commitment to working within a Christian value-based organization.
- Passion for supporting the capacity building of partners to assist vulnerable populations and address issues surrounding alcohol and drugs.
- Team-oriented, committed, and flexible, with the ability to work in a multicultural environment.
- Must possess a valid permit to work in Switzerland (no sponsorship required).
- This is a junior position, suitable for Bachelor's and Master's students in social sciences, communication, development cooperation, and related fields.
