International Blue Cross (IBC) is a politically and denominationally independent non-governmental umbrella organisation that unites 37 national Christian value-based organisations across Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America. IBC and its members focus on assisting some of the most excluded and vulnerable populations worldwide. IBC specializes in addressing alcohol and drug-related social and development issues through tailored prevention, treatment, and aftercare programmes.
In addition to its international development and cooperation initiatives, IBC engages in alcohol policy advocacy and holds consultative status at the UN ECOSOC. The international team oversees project coordination and provides guidance to our national partner organisations globally in both project implementation and financing. IBC is ZEWO certified and a member of the Community of Cooperation KoGe and INTERACTION.
Job Description
As a Communication and Fundraising Assistant, you will be based in Bern and will assist the multinational secretariat team with various tasks that need to be accomplished at the Bern office. Your responsibilities will include:
Communications and Fundraising Work
- Facilitating church fundraising for International Blue Cross
- Assisting in fundraising and project processes in collaboration with other staff members and volunteers
- Contributing to content creation for social media and the website, particularly focusing on storytelling from the field
- Drafting and developing project documents, fundraising and public relations materials, including project descriptions, annual reports, project reports, program sheets, and donation letters
- Facilitating an online youth forum approximately every 3-4 months
- Verbal communication: Managing phone calls to prospective donors and communicating appropriately with partners and members via Zoom and other online platforms
- Written communication: Assisting the team in writing texts for newsletters, project reports, donor reports, and calls for donations
- Supporting Programme Officers with project reporting and communication
Administrative Support
- Assisting the Finance Officer with financial record keeping
- Supporting the Administrator in travel arrangements for international meetings
- Handling correspondence: Filing, maintaining address lists, and overseeing mailings
- Providing support for secretarial tasks (translations, office mail, and office materials)
Representation
- Occasionally representing IBC in meetings and engaging with churches and other donors as appropriate
- Supporting the secretariat team in collaborations with institutional partners and other organisations to discover new funding opportunities
- Participating in occasional international travel (approximately 3-5 days per year, as agreed)
Other
- Carrying out any additional tasks required for the efficient operation of IBC
Job Requirements
- Fluency in German, with excellent command of English and basic knowledge of French. Proficiency in any additional language is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications: Excel, Word, and online communication tools; familiarity with InDesign is a significant advantage.
- Exceptional communication, social, and networking skills.
- Honesty, trustworthiness, attention to detail, and organisational skills.
- Commitment to working within a Christian value-based organisation.
- Driven to support capacity building for partners in order to assist vulnerable individuals and address issues related to alcohol and other drugs.

- Must possess a valid work permit for Switzerland (no sponsorship available).
