Summary
As our Clinical Development Medical Director in our Immunology Development Unit, you will be responsible for the scientific and clinical strategy of assigned clinical trials, scientific monitoring, and reporting of quality data.
About the Role
The Clinical Development Medical Director (CDMD) for Rheumatology serves as the clinical leader of defined program-level activities (e.g., submission activities, briefing books, etc.) or manages a large, complex trial under the guidance of the (Sr.) GPCH. This role may involve leading a section of a clinical program focused on specific indications, new formulations, or developmental phases.
Your Responsibilities Include:
- Providing clinical leadership and medical strategic input for deliverables within the assigned project/program, including sections of individual protocols consistent with the IDP, data review, program-specific standards, and clinical components of regulatory documents.
- Driving execution of the program section in partnership with global line functions, assigned Global Trial Directors (GTDs), and regional/country medical associates.
- Overseeing and conducting medical and scientific reviews of trial data in collaboration with Clinical Scientific Experts.
- Supporting the Sr/GPCH in ensuring the overall safety of the molecule and contributing to program safety reporting in collaboration with Patient Safety.
- Assisting the Therapeutic Area Head (TAH) by providing medical input into IDP and CTP reviews, while contributing to the development of disease clinical standards.
- Engaging with external partners such as regulatory authorities and patient advocacy groups, as well as internal stakeholders like CTT and Research.
- Working with the Novartis Institute of Biomedical Research (NIBR) and Transitional Medical Sciences to transition pre-PoC projects to DDP.
- Ensuring the career development of Program reports and clinical colleagues through active participation in performance management and talent planning processes.
- Contributing to medical/scientific training for relevant Novartis stakeholders regarding the disease area and the compound/molecule.
- Possibly serving on or leading global initiatives such as process improvement and training.
Minimal Requirements
- MD or equivalent medical degree is required.
- Medical Board certification preferred, with 4+ years of clinical practice experience (including residency) preferred.
- Possess advanced knowledge and clinical training in a medical/scientific area (e.g., internal medicine or a sub-specialty).
- 5+ years of experience in clinical research or drug development in the pharma/biotech industry, covering phases I through IV.
- 3+ years of proven contributions to all aspects of conducting clinical trials in a global/matrix environment.
- Demonstrable advanced knowledge of the assigned therapeutic area.
- Ability to establish strong scientific partnerships with key stakeholders.
- Thorough understanding of GCP, trial design, statistical methodologies, and regulatory/clinical development processes.
- People management experience preferred, including management in a matrix environment.
- Excellent business communication and presentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal abilities and adept negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
