Summary

As the Clinical Development Medical Director in our Immunology Development Unit, you will be integral in shaping the scientific and clinical strategy for assigned clinical trials, ensuring the quality of data through scientific monitoring and reporting.

About the Role

The Clinical Development Medical Director (CDMD) for Rheumatology serves as the clinical leader for specific program-level initiatives, which may include large, complex trials or defined activities such as submission processes and briefing books. You will collaborate closely with the (Sr.) GPCH, leading a section of the clinical program focused on indications, new formulations, or specific development phases.

Your Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership and medical strategic input for deliverables in the assigned project/program. Deliverables may include sections of individual protocols, data reviews, regulatory documents, and publications.
  • Drive execution of program sections in partnership with global functions, assigned Global Trial Directors (GTDs), and regional/country medical associates.
  • Oversee and conduct medical and scientific reviews of trial data with Clinical Scientific Experts (CSEs). May serve as study medical monitor.
  • Support safety oversight in collaboration with the Safety Management Team (SMT) and assist in program safety reporting.
  • Contribute medical insights to IDP and CTP reviews and aid in developing disease-specific clinical standards.
  • Engage with external partners, including regulatory authorities and patient advocacy groups, while also collaborating with internal teams across various functions.
  • Collaborate with NIBR and Translational Medical Sciences to transition pre-PoC projects to DDP and support due diligence activities.
  • Facilitate career development for program reports and clinical colleagues through performance management processes, mentoring, and training.
  • Contribute to medical/scientific training for relevant stakeholders and may serve as a speaker for the franchise.
  • Participate in or lead global initiatives focused on process improvement, training, and SOP development.

Minimal Requirements

  • MD (or equivalent medical degree) is required.
  • Medical Board certification preferred; 4+ years of clinical practice experience (including residency) is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge and clinical training in a medical/scientific area (e.g., internal medicine or subspecialty) is required.
  • 5+ years of experience in clinical research or drug development within the pharma/biotech industry, spanning clinical activities in Phases I through IV.
  • 3+ years of experience in all aspects of conducting clinical trials in a global/matrix environment.
  • Proven knowledge of the assigned therapeutic area and the ability to establish strong scientific partnerships.
  • Thorough understanding of GCP, trial design, statistical analysis methodologies, and the regulatory/clinical development process.
  • Preferred experience managing people, particularly in a matrix environment with global reach.
  • Excellent business communication, presentation skills, and strong interpersonal abilities.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
