Are you passionate about cleanroom microfabrication and eager to work in a high-tech environment at EPFL Lausanne? As a Cleanroom Microfabrication Process Engineer, you will be part of a dynamic team responsible for the fabrication of photonic integrated circuits in the CMi cleanroom at EPFL Lausanne. Your expertise will also be utilised to address complex fabrication challenges in piezo-MEMS and piezoelectric thin film deposition.
The unique nature of microfabrication demands a broad range of equipment and materials for each process. You will develop specialized expertise across various fabrication techniques, ultimately managing projects independently from start to finish. This role requires precision, focus, and a steady hand, along with flexibility in both attitude and working hours. Patience is also essential when handling intricate manufacturing processes.
You will be working in a shared cleanroom facility, accessible to both academics and companies. The cleanroom is a climate-controlled, dust-free laboratory, which necessitates wearing a special dust-free suit. Access is granted only after completing the mandatory chemical and safety course.
FoXmat SA is a start-up from the EPFL ecosystem, rooted in the now-defunct EPFL Ceramics Laboratory (EPFL IMX LC), a world-renowned research laboratory focused on the science and technology of functional ceramics, including piezoelectrics, ferroelectrics, and high-K dielectrics.
FoXmat specializes in providing the highest quality piezoelectric thin films (mainly lead-based PZT) on a wafer scale (ranging from chips to 200 mm wafers), deposited using the PLD technique, while considering stringent application and integration requirements. The main fabrication and thin film deposition partner has historically been, and continues to be, the EPFL Center of MicroNanoTechnology. Our primary market focuses on optoelectronic integrated circuits (OEIC) – a rapidly expanding segment where state-of-the-art piezo-optical-MEMS enable further miniaturization and scaling down possibilities. As a dedicated micro- and nano-fabrication partner for Photonic Integrated Circuits, FoXmat aims to become a major player in Europe and Switzerland, striving to reclaim innovation capabilities from overseas.
