Chief Technology Officer (CTO)
Quantitative Trading Systems
MONVEST develops mathematically grounded, systematic investment strategies for an institutionally oriented asset management platform. We are seeking a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) who embodies the integration of technology and financial markets. We desire a candidate who not only understands the markets but also actively builds the trading systems that navigate them.
Area of Responsibility
- Technology Strategy: Define and drive the technological direction of the platform, aligning it with the company’s institutional objectives.
- Development Oversight: Responsible for developing, programming, and continuously advancing proprietary trading and investment systems from model design to productive, auditable implementation.
- Product Development: Shape, build, and evolve the company’s systematic investment products from concept to institutional readiness.
- Quantitative Pipeline: Build and maintain the quantitative pipeline across the entire process: data preparation, signal generation, and validated decision-making.
- Risk Management Ownership: Implement position sizing, drawdown control, volatility control, and capital preservation as integral components of the systems.
- Model Governance: Ensure rigorous backtesting, validation, and model governance with full traceability of all decisions.
- Scalable Architecture: Build a scalable technology, execution, and data architecture that meets institutional requirements for reporting, auditability, governance, and compliance.
- Team Leadership: Build and lead engineering and IT teams while establishing a high-performing technical organization.
- Corporate Leadership: Contribute to the strategic management of the company and advise executive management on product structure, AMC/mandate solutions, data architecture, and regulatory-compliant processes.
- Representation: Represent the company to banks, institutional partners, and professional investors.
The Combination of Technology × Finance
This position thrives on bridging both worlds. A system is only as effective as the market understanding behind it, and market insights become ineffective without impeccable technical execution. We seek the rare blend of extensive institutional market experience and the capability to program and implement models independently, ensuring no loss in translation from concept to execution.
Requirements
- At least 25 years of experience in financial markets, institutional trading, quantitative analysis, or algorithmic trading.
- Demonstrable experience developing proprietary trading algorithms and quantitative investment models.
- Strong independent programming skills for implementing financial, risk, and trading models.
- Solid experience in institutional trading, portfolio risk management, capital preservation, position sizing, volatility control, and drawdown management.
- Proficient in quantitative and statistical methods for market analysis.
- Understanding of wealth management, family offices, institutional allocators, HNWI structures, and professional investors.
- Experience interacting with banks, asset managers, wealth managers, and regulatory partners.
- Entrepreneurial leadership experience and proven ability to transition a platform from build-up to institutional structure.
- Excellent command of English; proficiency in German is an advantage.
- Strong negotiation skills, integrity, polished presence, and willingness to engage internationally.
Advantageous
- Experience building or scaling a financial, technology, or investment company.
- Development of proprietary algorithmic trading systems.
- Experience trading institutional capital or collaborating with banks.
- Building risk frameworks, backtesting processes, model validation, and performance analytics.
- Familiarity with AMC structures, managed accounts, hedge-fund structures, or FINMA-adjacent setups.
- Capital raising with family offices and qualified investors.
Personal Qualities
- Analytical, disciplined, and driven by numbers.
- Technologically adept with hands-on programming skills.
- Entrepreneurial, decisive, and resilient.
- Communicative, polished, and effective in representation.
- High integrity, trustworthy, and long-term oriented.
