Job Opening: Teacher of Chemistry
We are seeking an outstanding and highly motivated Teacher of Chemistry who embraces forward-thinking pedagogical practices and is able to teach the subject to MYP/IGCSE and IB Diploma levels. This role is designed for a Chemistry specialist who is equally comfortable in the classroom and working collaboratively with colleagues, balancing both teaching and leadership responsibilities in alignment with the school's needs.
Main Duties
- Teach across the age and ability range, adapting lessons to meet the needs of each individual student.
- Contribute to the wider school community through active participation in sporting events, extracurricular activities, and other enrichment programs.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance your teaching practice.
- Maintain a strong commitment to the safeguarding of all young people.
- Complete subject-related administration as needed and contribute to or lead department meetings.
- Follow the school’s assessment and reporting processes and participate in parents’ meetings as required.
- Ensure exceptional standards of Health & Safety within the Science Department.
- Manage and maintain Science stock effectively, adhering to CLEAPSS protocols for safe storage, use, and disposal of materials.
The Ideal Candidate
- You are an educator dedicated to continual improvement and embody the attributes of the IB Learner Profile.
- Have previous experience leading a Science Department, preferably in an environment where students follow the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP).
- Hold a good honours degree and/or a further degree in a directly-related subject.
- Exhibit a strong commitment to the principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion.
- Be passionate about your subject and able to inspire enthusiasm in others.
- Embrace developments and innovations in teaching and learning; willing to experiment with new practices.
- Willing to act as a supervisor for learners completing the MYP Personal Project or the DP Extended Essay as needed.
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Share the educational philosophy of La Garenne International School and contribute to the co-curricular and pastoral aspects of school life.
- Exhibit strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with colleagues and school leadership.
