Chemicals Management & Lab Workflow Lead (m/f/d)

Roche Switzerland bridges the gap between pharmaceuticals and diagnostics, with crucial research and development functions located here. We are currently seeking a Chemicals Management & Lab Workflow Lead (m/f/d) for our esteemed client, Roche Diagnostics International AG, based in Rotkreuz.

Background

The PCR Assay Development team is dedicated to creating molecular diagnostic and screening tests utilizing PCR technology across various fields, including infectious diseases, genomics, and oncology. Our responsibilities encompass:

  • Initial prototyping; optimizing assay design to satisfy product requirements and manufacturability.
  • Development of test methods and acceptance criteria.
  • Transfer of reagent manufacturing instructions, test methods, and workflows to Operations.
  • Design and execution of verification and validation activities, including guard-band studies, stability studies, and technical performance verification studies.
  • Documentation of analytical performance for product labeling and regulatory submission packages.

Throughout these phases, Assay Development collaborates with a variety of departments, including Research, Operations, Quality, Regulatory, and Business, to create solutions that meet patient needs.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Ordering chemicals and drugs for PCR Assay Development.
  • Managing chemical inventory.
  • Ensuring chemical safety compliance.
  • Overseeing the chemical room.
  • Managing chemical waste, including emptying bins and disposal of expired materials.
  • Conducting chemical training, such as chemical spill response training.
  • Maintaining a chemical storage concept (Lagerkonzept) in Assay Development.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to enhance new digital chemical inventory solutions in line with lab workflows and safety standards.
  • Working with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., Development Project Teams, Site SHE, RnD Services, Site Services, Site Logistics, Procurement, Service technicians, Medicals, etc.).
  • Leading a small chemical support team (2-3 people) and participating in recruiting, onboarding, and professional development activities alongside the Assay Development People Leaders.
  • Providing audit support.
  • Identifying areas for lab workflow improvements in Biosafety Level 2 laboratories and leading implementation efforts as the Lab Workflow Lead.

Must Haves

  • Graduate as Biomedical Analyst Scientist (BMA HF) or a Lab Technician apprenticeship (Biology, Medical Diagnostics, Chemistry); alternatively, a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Life Sciences/Pharmaceutical Science with applicable lab experience (PhD graduates need not apply).
  • At least 2 years of lab experience.
  • Experience in a biological lab environment handling infectious samples (Biosafety Level 2).
  • Fluency in German and English, both written and spoken.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge in the field of chemical safety.
  • Basic leadership experience (1+ years, ideally supervising a team of 2-3 employees).
  • A team-oriented, open-minded attitude.
  • Proactive mindset with an organized work style.
  • Flexible, strategic thinking, and self-motivated.
  • Strong documentation skills.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience in a GMP/GLP/GCP environment.
  • Proficiency in IT and software applications such as SAP, Signals eLN, Monday, Excel, and others.
  • Experience in conducting audits.
