Chemicals Management & Lab Workflow Lead (m/f/d)

Roche Switzerland bridges the gap between pharmaceuticals and diagnostics, with crucial research and development functions located here. We are currently seeking a Chemicals Management & Lab Workflow Lead (m/f/d) for our esteemed customer, Roche Diagnostics International AG, based in Rotkreuz.

Background

The PCR Assay Development team is dedicated to developing molecular diagnostic and screening tests using PCR technology across various domains, including infectious diseases, genomics, and oncology, from initial feasibility to commercial launch. Our core responsibilities encompass:

  • Initial prototyping and optimization of assay design to align with product requirements and ensure manufacturability.
  • Development of test methods and acceptance criteria.
  • Transfer of reagent manufacturing instructions, test methods, and workflows to Operations.
  • Design and execution of verification and validation activities, including guard-band studies, stability studies, and technical performance verification studies.
  • Documentation of analytical performance for product labeling and regulatory submission packages.

Throughout the product development phases, the Assay Development team interacts with various departments, including Research, Operations, Quality, Regulatory, and Business, in order to address what patients need next.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Ordering chemicals and drugs for PCR Assay Development.
  • Managing chemical inventory.
  • Responsible for chemical safety.
  • Overseeing the chemical room.
  • Managing chemical waste: emptying bins and disposing of expired materials.
  • Responsible for chemical training (e.g., chemical spill trainings).
  • Maintaining a chemical storage concept in Assay Development.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to shape, test, and continuously improve new digital chemical inventory solutions, ensuring seamless integration with lab workflows and adherence to safety standards.
  • Working with both internal and external stakeholders, including Development Project Teams, Site SHE, R&D Services, Site Services, Site Logistics, Procurement, Service technicians, Medical teams, etc.
  • Leading a small chemical support team (2-3 people) and participating in hiring, onboarding, and development activities in collaboration with AD People Leaders.
  • Providing audit support.
  • Proactively identifying areas for lab workflow improvements in BSL-2 laboratories and driving implementation as the Lab Workflow Lead.

Must Haves

  • Graduate as a Biomedical Analyst Scientist (BMA HF), Lab Technician (Biology, Medical Diagnostics, Chemistry), or hold at least a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Life Sciences/Pharmaceutical Science, with practical lab experience (PhD graduates not accepted).
  • Ideally, 2+ years of lab experience.
  • Experience in a biological environment with infectious sample handling (Biosafety Level 2).
  • Fluency in German and English, both written and oral, is essential.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Experience in the field of chemical safety.
  • Basic leadership experience (1+ years), preferably leading a team of at least 2-3 employees.
  • Open-minded team player with a proactive mindset and organized working style.
  • Flexible thinker who is self-sufficient and capable of strategic planning.
  • Excellent documentation skills.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience in a GMP/GLP/GCP environment.
  • Proficiency in IT/Software applications such as SAP, Signals eLN, Monday, Excel, and others.
  • Familiarity with audit processes.
