Chemical Lab Technician / Chemical Lab Technicianess

CLIMEWORKS AG - June 5, 2026

About the Role

Climeworks operates a newly built, state-of-the-art laboratory equipped with advanced instrumentation for analytics, synthesis, wet chemistry, and materials characterization. The Lab Technician will support the development and characterization of sorbent materials through advanced analytical techniques and reliable lab operations. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and thrives in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Analytical & Experimental Lab Work

  • Conduct routine isotherm measurements, including sample preparation.
  • Support lab stakeholders by routinely performing materials characterization analysis using techniques such as porosity characterization via mercury porosimetry and N2 physisorption, elemental analysis, titrations, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and dynamic vapor sorption (DVS).
  • Perform advanced method development and implement new analytical technologies to address emerging needs and support key stakeholders on sorbent and structured sorbent materials.

Instrumentation & Lab Operations

  • Maintain, calibrate, validate, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments.
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation including maintenance and calibration logs, validation reports, SOPs, and lessons learned.
  • Support general lab operations, including inventory management, gas and waste handling, supplies ordering, lab organization and cleaning, and HSE walkthroughs.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and laboratory protocols; knowledge of regulatory standards is a plus (such as SUVA requirements).

Data Handling and Optimization

  • Manage and organize laboratory data, including recording, cleaning, and basic analysis; apply introductory coding skills (e.g., Python) for simple data processing tasks.
  • Bonus skills (not required but a plus): Advanced coding/scripting to further optimize and scale data workflows.
  • Design and implement interactive dashboards and reports to visualize laboratory performance, KPIs, and experimental data (e.g., Power BI).

Your Story

  • Completed apprenticeship as a Chemical Laboratory Technician or a degree in Chemistry or a related field.
  • 2–5 years of hands-on laboratory experience in an applied lab environment.
  • Solid experience with analytical methods, troubleshooting, and routine laboratory operations (e.g., isotherm measurements).
  • Experience in method development and implementation of analytical techniques (e.g., porosity characterization, elemental analyses).
  • Ability to maintain, calibrate, validate, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments.
  • Strong documentation and data handling skills.
  • Good understanding of laboratory safety standards and protocols.
  • Structured, detail-oriented, and proactive working style with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Team-oriented mindset and ability to thrive in a dynamic environment.

Nice-to-Have

  • Knowledge of SUVA requirements or comparable laboratory safety regulations.
  • Basic Python or similar coding skills for simple data processing.
  • Advanced coding/scripting or dashboarding skills (e.g., Power BI).
  • Experience with advanced material characterization or thermal analysis techniques.
