Join Our Team at ETH Student Project House

Be a part of our dynamic team at ETH Student Project House and help students transform their ideas into reality through hands-on prototyping and your woodworking expertise.

About Us

At the ETH Student Project House (SPH), we inspire and empower students to develop a mindset of innovation and creativity. Our ecosystem encourages students—from Bachelor to Doctoral levels—to ideate, build prototypes, test, and refine their projects, providing them with valuable hands-on experience and essential skills for their future.

Our interdisciplinary team of 30 professionals supports students pursuing extracurricular projects of various scales. We provide a coworking space, coaching, and a well-equipped Makerspace, which offers access to the tools and equipment necessary for prototyping.

Position Overview

As our project portfolio expands, we are seeking a skilled woodworker to join our Makerspace team. You will work in one of the most inspiring environments at ETH Zürich, surrounded by 3D printers, inspiring furniture designs, and vibrant greenery.

We are located at ETH Hönggerberg and ETH Centre campus. Our work environment fosters communication and collaboration, allowing you to meet and interact with project teams from diverse backgrounds. Since the projects we support are extracurricular, most of our events and training take place in the late afternoons, evenings, and occasionally on weekends.

This is an 80-100% position, initially offered on a one-year contract with the possibility of extension.

Your Responsibilities

  • Machines: Operate, maintain, tidy, and clean our woodworking area and machines, including band saws, mitre saws, and belt sanders.
  • Introductions, Supervision, and Safety: Introduce students to woodworking tools and machines, supervising them during use while prioritizing their safety.
  • Coaching: Provide technical support to early-stage student projects.
  • Workshops: Co-facilitate and lead workshops in woodworking, with the opportunity to extend our offerings based on your expertise.
  • Design and Make: Assist in designing and building custom infrastructure and furniture to enhance our space.

Who We're Looking For

  • Completion of an apprenticeship as a carpenter or woodworker (Schreiner:in) and possession of a Swiss Federal Certificate of Competence (EFZ).
  • A strong affinity for tools, machinery, and hands-on work.
  • Confidence in enforcing safety protocols and responsibilities.
  • A passion for realizing personal projects, including learning from failure.
  • A genuine interest in supporting student growth and adapting to their needs.
  • Comfort in public speaking and leading workshops.
  • Fluency in English (C1) and proficiency in German (B2 or higher), both spoken and written.
  • Familiarity with modern communication tools and standard workshop infrastructure.

We encourage anyone who believes they meet the qualifications to apply, even if they don’t check every box.

Your Impactful Role

Join ETH Zurich and contribute to professional development while actively promoting positive changes in society. We are committed to creating a sustainable and climate-neutral university environment.

Expect numerous benefits, including public transport season tickets, car sharing options, access to a wide range of sports through ASVZ, childcare support, and attractive pension benefits.
