The ETH Zurich core facility NEXUS Personalized Health facilitates discovery and translational research aimed at enhancing personalized health. The mission of the Biostatistics Group at NEXUS is to offer expertise in statistics and computational biology, thereby advancing biomedical research and clinical applications.
Position Available: Biostatistician
We are seeking a skilled Biostatistician to join our international and multidisciplinary team in Zurich, with a start date either immediately or by mutual agreement.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct project-specific statistical analysis and report findings on diverse multi-omics data types, including whole transcriptome bulk, single-cell, and spatial data.
Provide expert support in statistical data analysis, including inference with generalized linear models, Cox regression, and probabilistic outcome prediction.
Assist clients with statistical considerations, such as sample size determination and experimental design.
Participate in the evaluation and implementation of new methods to enhance existing analytical pipelines.
Develop, utilize, and share software tools that adhere to the principles of reproducible research (e.g., markdown, git, containerization).
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
A PhD in biostatistics or a quantitative science, or an equivalent level of experience (e.g., MSc plus relevant work experience).
In-depth expertise in applied biostatistics, including modern methods for inference, prediction, and dimension reduction.
Strong programming skills in R.
Hands-on experience analyzing biological or medical data, gained during a master’s or PhD thesis or equivalent work.
Enthusiasm for computational biology and translational research focusing on multi-modal molecular data.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills to effectively work within cross-functional teams.
Fluency in English, both verbal and written.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with analyzing spatial data, time-to-event data, high-dimensional data, machine learning, or AI.
Familiarity with NGS bioinformatics in a Unix-based HPC environment.
Experience with workflow management systems.
Knowledge of German.
