NEXUS Personalized Health

The ETH Zurich core facility NEXUS Personalized Health enables discovery and translational research for personalized health. The mission of the Biostatistics Group at NEXUS is to provide expertise in statistics and computational biology to advance biomedical research and clinical applications.

Position Overview

We are looking for a Biostatistician to join our international and multidisciplinary team in Zurich, immediately or by mutual agreement. In this role, you will be primarily responsible for project-tailored statistical analysis and results reporting of diverse multi-omics data types, including, but not limited to, whole transcriptome bulk, single-cell, and spatial data. Our projects typically span a biomedical research or clinical diagnostics setting, with scope ranging from basic differential expression analyses to clinical studies.

NEXUS collaborates with various academic institutions, hospitals, and companies, providing you with the opportunity to communicate with a diverse set of stakeholders in these domains.

Your Responsibilities

  • Provide expert support in statistical data analysis for clients in personalized health and translational research, including inference with generalized linear models, Cox regression, or probabilistic outcome prediction.
  • Assist customers in statistical considerations of sample size and experimental design.
  • Participate in the evaluation and implementation of new methods to improve existing pipelines.
  • Develop, utilize, and share software tools that comply with the principles of reproducible research (markdown, git, containerization).

Qualifications

As a successful candidate, you will possess:

  • A PhD in biostatistics or a quantitative science, or equivalent experience (e.g., MSc plus work experience).
  • Broad and deep expertise in applied biostatistics, including modern methods for inference, prediction, and dimension reduction.
  • Strong programming skills in R.
  • Hands-on experience in analyzing biological or medical data, such as during a master’s or PhD thesis or equivalent work.
  • Enthusiasm for computational biology and translational research focused on multi-modal molecular data.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Fluency in English, both verbal and written.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with the analysis of spatial data, time-to-event data, high-dimensional data, machine learning, or AI.
  • Experience with NGS bioinformatics in a Unix-based HPC environment.
  • Experience with workflow management systems.
  • Knowledge of German.

Why Join Us?

At NEXUS, we value knowledge exchange and teamwork, where everyone contributes their expertise. As a small group, we maintain flat hierarchies and offer flexible working hours along with family-friendly working models.
