Bioinformatics Scientist / Bioinformatics Scientistess

ETH Zürich - February 22, 2026

Join Our Interdisciplinary Research Team

We are an interdisciplinary research group dedicated to unraveling the pathophysiology of arthritis. Our work combines in vitro models across various cell types and in vivo models of joint injury and inflammatory arthritis to unveil mechanisms relevant to inflammation and fibrosis that lead to joint disease. Our primary objective is to identify and focus on novel molecular mechanisms that underlie inflammation and tissue degeneration, ultimately aiming to develop innovative disease-modifying therapies.

Position Available: Bioinformatics Scientist / Data Scientist

We are looking for a highly motivated Bioinformatics Scientist / Data Scientist to lead multi-omics data analysis. In this role, you will be crucial in analyzing high-dimensional biological datasets, developing and maintaining bioinformatics pipelines, and collaborating closely with experimental scientists to translate computational findings into biological insights. This position is an excellent fit for candidates ranging from M.S.-level scientists with relevant experience to early- and mid-career PhD-trained researchers seeking an independent and impactful role in an academic research environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support multi-omics data analysis across in vitro, in vivo, and clinical datasets.
  • Maintain, improve, and develop reproducible bioinformatics pipelines.
  • Integrate computational analyses with experimental and clinical data to generate biologically meaningful insights.
  • Stay current with emerging computational methods and apply them to ongoing research questions.
  • Communicate results effectively within the lab and to a broader scientific audience.

Education & Experience:

  • Master’s degree required; PhD preferred in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Data Science, Computer Science, Informatics, or a closely related field.
  • Master’s degree with 3+ years of relevant research or industry experience, or
  • PhD with 0+ years of postdoctoral or equivalent experience.

Technical Expertise:

  • Proficiency in R and Python (MATLAB experience is a plus).
  • Ability to analyze high-dimensional bioinformatics datasets, including multi-omics data (e.g., transcriptomics, epigenomics, proteomics, spatial or single-cell data) using existing pipelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to enhance, optimize, and extend existing computational pipelines, as well as design and implement new workflows.
  • Experience working with large and complex datasets.
  • Strong ability to read, interpret, and implement methods from current bioinformatics and computational biology literature.
  • Experience using and maintaining GitHub repositories for version control and collaborative development.
  • Familiarity with conda environments, Jupyter notebooks, and R Markdown for reproducible research.

Domain Knowledge:

  • A background or strong interest in genomics, musculoskeletal biology, inflammation, tissue degeneration, or related biological systems is highly desirable.

Preferred Skills & Attributes:

  • Strong organizational skills, including time management and attention to detail.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to present computational methods and biological results clearly to audiences with varying levels of expertise.
  • Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration with experimental biologists, clinicians, and engineers.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership or mentorship is a plus.

Why Join Us?
