Bioinformatician for Computational Genomics and Omics Data Analysis

The Laboratory of Regenerative and Muscle Biology at ETH Zurich, in collaboration with the Functional Genomics Center Zurich (FGCZ), offers a joint position for a bioinformatician to work on omics data.

Project Background

The Laboratory of Regenerative and Muscle Biology (RMB), led by Prof. Ori Bar-Nur, is a multidisciplinary and collaborative group focused on translating basic research findings into therapeutically applicable treatments. The lab operates across molecular and cellular biology, gene- and cell-based therapies, and tissue engineering, employing multiomics tools extensively to advance our understanding of biological processes.

The Functional Genomics Center Zurich (FGCZ) serves as a core facility of ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich, applying the latest omics technologies for biomolecular research and personalized medicine. The FGCZ Genome Informatics group assists researchers with the analysis and interpretation of large-scale datasets, especially with next-generation sequencing (NGS) data. This team handles raw data processing, high-performance computing, statistical evaluation, and integrated analysis using an excellent open-source software environment, establishing state-of-the-art data analysis concepts and algorithms.

Job Description

The bioinformatician will play a crucial role in a variety of basic and translational research projects within the RMB lab. This position requires close collaboration with an international research team, demanding a high level of motivation, scientific curiosity, and a collaborative mindset. As a member of the FGCZ Genome Informatics group, the candidate will offer bioinformatics services to support ongoing projects, perform data analyses using existing infrastructure, and develop and implement additional analysis workflows. A strong emphasis will be placed on single-cell and spatial transcriptomics applications; previous experience in these assays is highly desirable.

Profile

  • PhD degree in bioinformatics or a related field
  • Proficient in NGS data analysis with excellent scripting skills
  • In-depth knowledge of R/Bioconductor and/or Python
  • Working experience with the GNU/Linux operating system
  • Enthusiastic about statistical and bioinformatics data analysis
  • Strong communication skills and a team-oriented approach
  • Good understanding of biological research questions
  • Service-oriented and adaptable to the evolving field of bioinformatics
  • Advanced proficiency in English
