D-GESS, Decision Science Laboratory

The Decision Science Laboratory at ETH Zurich (DeSciL) is excited to announce a technical laboratory operations associate position available from October 2025 to November 2025.

ETH DeSciL serves as a support center for researchers conducting human subject trials and behavioral experiments in both laboratory and online settings, in addition to managing survey and data collection projects.

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated project team member who is enthusiastic about contributing to laboratory and online research in the Humanities and Social Sciences. You will be an active participant in a dynamic and international team of researchers and developers, working to operate and advance our cutting-edge research platform.

Main Responsibilities

  • Conduct human subject trials in laboratory and online environments.
  • DevOps: Support daily research platform operations in collaboration with the development team, perform database updates, and ensure data integrity.
  • Software development: Implement and test new features for the research platform.
  • Platform analytics: Regularly analyze user behavior to inform research efforts.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a Social Science discipline combined with robust software engineering skills.
  • Work experience, preferably in software development or applied research projects.
  • Proficiency in software development and scripting, particularly with automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python) and Git for version control.
  • Strong data analysis skills in R and Python.
  • Experience with behavioral toolboxes such as PsychoPy, z-Tree, oTree, or Matlab Psychtoolbox is a plus.
  • A proactive, problem-solving attitude with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of German is desirable.
