Battery Trader / Battery Traderess

Alpiq AG - December 7, 2025

Join Our Team as a Battery Trader

Alpiq is rapidly expanding in the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) sector across Europe, managing both our own assets and third-party portfolios. We currently operate and market battery flexibility, including wholesale and ancillary services, and are eager to scale our operations further. We are seeking a qualified Battery Trader to manage the long-term risks associated with BESS contracts and assets, ensuring stable cash flows while also retaining the potential for upside from flexibility. This position is available in either Lausanne or Olten, Switzerland.

Your Responsibilities

  • Manage the long-term BESS risk portfolio by identifying, quantifying, and addressing structural risks arising from merchant revenues, ancillary services, asset degradation, and contractual features, such as tolling floors/caps and indexation.
  • Design and implement hedging strategies across European power markets, and where applicable, across commodities, to stabilize cash flows and mitigate risks while capitalizing on flexible opportunities.
  • Support the pricing and structuring of long-dated battery exposures.
  • Engage in trading options and structures to manage the optionality embedded in BESS operations and contracts.
  • Collaborate closely with teams in Origination/Business Development, Intraday/Asset Trading, Analytics/Quantitative Analysis, Risk, Legal, and IT/Algorithms to ensure that pricing, booking, and risk monitoring are aligned throughout the process.
  • Contribute to the development of model specifications, perform stress tests, and enforce risk governance. Propose limits and Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) while refining P&L and exposure reporting for batteries.
  • Maintain awareness of market and regulatory changes across European reserve and flexibility products, including FCR/aFRR/tertiary services, capacity mechanisms, and balancing rules—translating these insights into appropriate trading and hedging strategies in collaboration with other teams.

Your Profile

  • 5+ years of experience in trading European energy markets (power/gas), demonstrating a strong track record in risk management and P&L achievement.
  • A solid foundation in Financial Theory and Asset Pricing, including stochastic processes, options and real-options, and term-structure modeling.
  • Experience in Power Intraday markets and Ancillary Services.
  • Hands-on experience with battery pricing and trading.
  • Familiarity with commodity options and structured product trading.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in additional European languages is a plus.
  • Able to work onsite in either Lausanne or Olten.
