The ETH AI Center stands as one of the largest AI research centers in Europe, comprising over 120 professors from all 16 departments of ETH Zurich, alongside more than 1500 associated PhD students and post-doctoral researchers. Position Overview

We are seeking an Associate to the Directors who will work closely with the Executive Director and Co-Director of the ETH AI Center. This position is pivotal in supporting strategic, operational, and scientific initiatives across the Center. It offers unparalleled access to the workings of one of Europe’s leading AI research institutions.

This role is intended as a launchpad for exceptional individuals, typically within a 1-2 year timeframe, providing extensive exposure to the AI research landscape, innovation ecosystems, academic-industry collaboration, and science policy. Associates will gain hands-on experience in science strategy, research management, and institutional leadership, making it an ideal stepping stone for future careers in academia, industry, or entrepreneurship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in establishing new initiatives and projects from ideation to funding, actively tracking project milestones, reporting, finances, and deliverables.
  • Create compelling presentations, collaboration agreements, and documentation to support project initiatives.
  • Project-manage meetings of the Swiss National AI Institute in collaboration with EPFL counterparts.
  • Collaborate with teams to enhance processes, such as OKR (Objectives and Key Results) reviews, optimizing efficiency and performance.
  • Work directly with the Directors and the ETH AI Center executive team on key strategic initiatives, providing valuable insights and support.
  • Handle administrative tasks, including managing inbound requests and scheduling for the Directors and the Center as needed.
  • Support the core leadership team with various initiatives.

The position is initially limited to one year, with the intention of extension based on performance and projects.

Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and collaborate across disciplines.
  • A proven track record in capturing and structuring discussions through clear meeting minutes and actionable follow-ups.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and solution-driven approach.
  • Excellent organizational skills, adept at managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset fueled by curiosity and a desire for continuous learning in the field of artificial intelligence and related disciplines.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's or master's degree.
  • Prior experience in a similar role within project management, consulting, academia, or a tech/startup environment is advantageous.
  • A demonstrated passion for artificial intelligence research and interest in driving innovation within the field.
  • Proven ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage several tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail, capable of critical and strategic thinking.
