swisspeace is a practice and research institute dedicated to advancing effective peacebuilding. Partnerships with local and international actors are at the core of our work. Together, we combine competence and creativity to reduce violence and promote peace in contexts affected by conflicts. In collaboration with the University of Basel, swisspeace offers a variety of postgraduate programs and courses for peacebuilding professionals from around the globe.

Position: Associate Program Officer Communication (80-100%)

Starting date: 1 June 2026 (or by agreement), Contract duration: 2 years.

The Communication Team at swisspeace is crucial for developing and implementing our communication activities, which include organizing events, managing social media channels, maintaining websites, and producing newsletters and publications. A significant highlight of our work is the Basel Peace Forum, the world's first forum dedicated to addressing peace across various sectors, inspiring innovative ideas and collaborative peacebuilding approaches. Our team also manages relationships with external stakeholders, provides training opportunities, and contributes to swisspeace’s research-practice portfolio through various projects, conferences, publications, and educational initiatives.

Your Tasks

  • Support the conceptualization, organization, and implementation of the Basel Peace Forum.
  • Manage swisspeace’s support association, pro swisspeace, along with related events.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate our (digital) communication activities, including websites, newsletters, and social media channels.
  • Assist with writing and editing tasks, such as contributions to our annual report.
  • Support other activities related to team development.

Your Profile

  • Master’s degree in communication, media sciences, marketing, business administration, international relations, or similar fields.
  • Strong interest in (science) communication, event organization, and peacebuilding topics.
  • Proven experience in managing various communication projects and platforms.
  • Familiarity with or affinity for tools and software such as CMS, Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, and others.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills in both German and English; proficiency in additional languages is an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills, with a proactive, reliable nature and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Enjoy working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks with competing deadlines.
