This senior scientific leadership opportunity is ideal for an experienced pharmacologist with deep expertise in renal disease biology and translational drug discovery. In this role, you will be instrumental in advancing novel therapeutics from target validation through candidate selection, while closely collaborating with biotechnology and pharmaceutical partners dedicated to developing next-generation treatments for kidney disease.
The Opportunity
As a vital member of multidisciplinary drug discovery teams, you will be responsible for the design, delivery, and interpretation of pharmacology studies supporting programs across a wide range of areas:

- Podocyte Biology

You will contribute to target validation, mechanism-of-action studies, translational biomarker strategies, and efficacy assessments, facilitating the progression of novel therapeutics into development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and scientifically direct in vivo pharmacology programs focused on renal and nephrology indications.
- Design and oversee studies utilizing relevant disease models such as:
- Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)
- Acute Kidney Injury (AKI)
- Renal Fibrosis
- Diabetic Kidney Disease (DKD)
- Proteinuric Kidney Disease
- Glomerulonephritis
- Nephropathy
- Kidney Inflammation
- Progressive Renal Disease
- Drive translational pharmacology strategies linking preclinical findings to clinical outcomes.
- Support target validation and mechanism-of-action studies across pathways implicated in:
- Fibrosis
- Inflammation
- Immune-Mediated Kidney Disease
- Metabolic Dysfunction
- Tissue Remodeling
- Renal Injury and Repair
- Analyze and interpret efficacy, pharmacodynamic, and biomarker data to guide program decisions.
- Collaborate with medicinal chemistry, DMPK, translational science, biomarker, and safety teams.
- Present scientific recommendations and project updates to external biotech and pharmaceutical clients.
- Mentor scientists and contribute to the development of innovative in vivo and translational capabilities.
About You
Essential Experience
- PhD in Pharmacology, Physiology, Nephrology, Biomedical Sciences, or related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- Significant experience in in vivo pharmacology within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or CRO-based drug discovery environments.
- Strong expertise in renal disease biology and nephrology research.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)
- Acute Kidney Injury (AKI)
- Diabetic Kidney Disease (DKD)
- Diabetic Nephropathy
- Renal Fibrosis
- Kidney Inflammation
- Glomerular Disease
- Proteinuria
- Albuminuria
- Podocyte Dysfunction
- Tubular Injury
- Fibrotic Disorders
- Proven ability to design, interpret, and lead complex preclinical pharmacology studies.
- Experience influencing scientific strategy and program progression decisions.
- Knowledge of UK regulations governing in vivo research.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Highly Desirable
- Expertise in translational nephrology.
- Biomarker identification and validation.
- Renal functional endpoints including:
- eGFR
- Albumin-Creatinine Ratio (ACR)
