Job Purpose
Aiglon College is an international boarding school nestled in the Swiss Alps, renowned for offering a challenging holistic education within a safe, caring, and supportive environment. Accredited by CIS and NEASC, the school caters to 480 students aged 7-18 from 64 different nations. Students are prepared for IGCSEs and the IB Diploma Programme.
We are seeking an experienced counsellor with 8 to 10 years or more of expertise in university and college application processes in North America, the United Kingdom, and around the globe. The final job title may vary based on the candidate's work experiences.
This position involves providing personalized guidance to students regarding their career aspirations and university choices, as well as support in personal statement writing, interviewing techniques, standardized testing strategies, financial aid, and more. The University Advising department currently consists of a University Advising Director, two Associate Directors, and an Officer.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Counselling Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the department to develop and maintain a comprehensive college guidance program.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with Aiglon students in the senior school through individual meetings.
- Present alongside fellow counsellors during numerous application workshops for Years 10-13.
- Offer assistance to students in preparing high-quality applications, including the essay writing process, CVs, and other relevant documents.
- Stay updated on university admission policies and procedures for entry into institutions worldwide, particularly in the US, UK, Canada, and Europe.
- Write detailed letters of recommendation and UCAS references for assigned students.
- Manage online platforms and data systems for the efficient organization and submission of application documents.
- Assist Year 11 students and the Studies Office with the IB course selection process.
- Maintain awareness of scholarship and financial aid opportunities for international students abroad.
- Engage with university representatives visiting Aiglon.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with university representatives globally, especially those that interest the Aiglon community.
- Participate in the annual CIS College Fair with Year 12 students, held each Autumn term.
- Attend CIS (November in Europe) and IACAC (July in North America) conferences for ongoing professional development and networking opportunities, with the possibility of attending additional conferences.
- Communication
- Attend and present at Parent/Teacher Conferences, providing information about our university guidance program and addressing any questions from parents.
- Maintain open communication with students, parents, teachers, and prospective families via email, phone, and in-person meetings.
- Assist the UA Department and Studies Offices with July IB results, communicating with families as necessary regarding university options.
- Contribute to Aiglon publications by writing articles about the department's program and the university search process.
- Promote Aiglon’s educational and IB programs.
Other Tasks and Responsibilities
- Perform any additional tasks required by the Director of University Advising to ensure the department operates smoothly.
- Understand and implement all school policies and procedures, especially those related to the safeguarding of children and young people.
- Embody the School’s Guiding Principles and uphold its ethos at all times.
