Assistant Professor Tenure Track Transition for Hebrew Bible Studies / Old Testament

The position of Assistant Professor Tenure Track Transition is set to commence on August 1, 2026, at the Faculty of Theology at the University of Bern.

The teaching and research activities of the advertised professorship will initially be conducted in conjunction with the professorship for "Literature and Theology of the Old Testament" under Professor Dr. Andreas Wagner and the lectureship for "Biblical Theology and Its Contemporary Relevance" led by Dr. Nancy Rahn. Candidates are expected to have completed a postdoctoral qualification and to establish or expand their own research and teaching profile.

The responsibilities associated with this professorship include:

  • Successful acquisition of research funding
  • Supervision of bachelor's and master's theses, as well as dissertations
  • International networking
  • Participation in academic self-governance

We are seeking a candidate with an outstanding doctoral degree in Old Testament, Hebrew Bible Studies, or a related field. Excellent command of biblical languages is required, and knowledge of ancient Oriental languages is desirable. We are looking for a committed individual eager to further develop their teaching and research profile. Applicants with university-level teaching experience or relevant teaching qualifications are particularly welcome.
