Location: Basel, Switzerland - Onsite

Role Purpose: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Analytical Project Leader to support Analytical Research & Development (ARD) in project management. ARD, part of the Technical R&D department at Novartis, plays a crucial role in the characterization and analysis of Drug Substances and Drug Products from the moment compounds leave discovery laboratories until they are transitioned to Commercial Production. Candidates with experience in Oligonucleotide analytics are particularly encouraged to apply.

About the Role

**Main Accountabilities:**

  • Be an integral member of a global CMC subteam, responsible for leading the technical development of Drug Substances and Drug Products through early to late-phase clinical development.
  • Manage analytical activities within a Technical CMC project team by defining control and specification-setting strategies for Drug Substances and Drug Products of new modalities (e.g., xRNAs).
  • Lead an analytical subteam, preparing analytical project plans while ensuring quality, timelines, and budget adherence for assigned projects.
  • Accurately forecast FTE and cost demands for your projects.
  • Ensure timely issuance of analytical source documents, such as Specifications, Validation reports, and Stability reports.
  • Provide scientific inputs for analytical CMC documents and support regulatory submissions.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders in drug development, coaching analytical experts along the way.
  • Oversee outsourced analytical activities at CROs/CDMOs and help manage external partnerships.

**Ideal Background:**

  • Desirable: PhD in analytical chemistry or equivalent, with a minimum of 5 years' experience in the pharmaceutical industry as a project leader in analytical development, preferably for sterile parenteral products. Experience in Oligonucleotide analytics is a plus.
  • Proven knowledge in early or late-phase parenteral development and filing.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in managing development projects, ideally within a global matrix environment.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory guidelines for analytical development.
  • A high level of motivation to work with new development compounds, often requiring an extra effort, is key to our success.
  • Broad scientific knowledge in chemistry, pharmaceutical, or analytical sciences, with the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication and role modeling skills.
  • Understanding of novel digital tools to enhance productivity in a global project management context.
  • Fluency in English (oral and written); proficiency in German is a plus.
