Job Opening: Advocacy Officer

Right Livelihood is seeking a full-time Advocacy Officer to join our Geneva office. This pivotal role will focus on promoting and advancing the causes of our Laureates in both international and regional forums.

Purpose of the Role

The Advocacy Officer will play a critical role in increasing awareness of Right Livelihood Laureates, supporting their causes, and amplifying the impact of their work across relevant platforms. Key responsibilities include tracking, analyzing, and engaging with international human rights mechanisms, while continually involving the Laureates to enhance their engagement and capacity building.

Main Responsibilities

  • Identify, propose, and help develop new international advocacy opportunities.
  • Proactively implement advocacy objectives.
  • Assist in organizing solidarity missions to Laureates' countries.
  • Support the coordination of events involving Laureates.
  • Prepare advocacy materials, including briefings, talking points, reports, and campaign materials.
  • Support the organization's engagement with UN human rights mechanisms and other international institutions in line with the annual strategic plan.
  • Contribute to establishing cooperation with NGOs and relevant stakeholders in Geneva and other pertinent forums.
  • Strengthen cooperation with existing partners to leverage advocacy opportunities.
  • Liaise with Laureates and explore meaningful ways to support their work.

Experience and Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Experience in multicultural environments.
  • Knowledge of multilateral processes, including at the regional level.
  • Understanding of climate and environmental issues.
  • Experience with grassroots organizations or movements is desirable.
  • Full professional proficiency in English; proficiency in French, Spanish, Arabic, or Russian is a plus.
  • Proven networking and social skills.
  • Experience working with vulnerable groups on sensitive issues, along with language skills in this context, is desirable.

Terms of Employment

This position is based in our Geneva office, with regular international travel expected. It is a full-time role under a permanent contract (CDI) with a probationary period of three months.
