Full-Time Advocacy Officer

Right Livelihood is seeking a dedicated full-time Advocacy Officer to join our team at the Geneva office. This crucial role will focus on promoting and advancing the causes of our Laureates in international and regional forums.

Purpose of the Role

The Advocacy Officer will play a vital role in raising awareness about Right Livelihood Laureates, promoting their causes, and enhancing the impact of their work on pertinent platforms. A key responsibility will be to track, analyze, and engage with international human rights mechanisms while actively involving the Laureates to strengthen their engagement and capacity building.

Main Responsibilities

  • Identify, propose, and develop new international advocacy opportunities.
  • Proactively implement advocacy objectives.
  • Assist in organizing solidarity missions to Laureates' countries.
  • Support the coordination of events involving Laureates.
  • Prepare advocacy materials, including briefings, talking points, reports, and campaign materials.
  • Support the organization's overall engagement with UN human rights mechanisms and other international institutions as per the strategic plan.
  • Contribute to establishing cooperation with NGOs and other relevant actors in Geneva and other pertinent forums.
  • Strengthen cooperation with existing partners to maximize advocacy opportunities.
  • Liaise with Laureates to explore meaningful ways to support their work.

Experience and Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Experience in multicultural environments.
  • Knowledge of multilateral processes, including regional levels.
  • Understanding of climate and environmental issues.
  • Background in grassroots organizations or movements is preferred.
  • Full professional proficiency in English; proficiency in French, Spanish, Arabic, or Russian is an asset.
  • Proven networking and social skills.
  • Experience working with vulnerable groups on sensitive issues is desirable, including language skills on sensitive topics.

Terms of Employment

This position is based in our Geneva office, with regular international travel anticipated. It is a full-time role and a permanent contract (CDI) with a probationary period of three months.
