Summary

The Accounting Manager is responsible for financial reporting and accounting for various Swiss-based Novartis legal entities, primarily focusing on statutory accounting (Swiss GAAP) and monthly financial reporting (FCRS). This role functions as a key resource for statutory accounting and collaborates closely with the NOCC and FRA R2R Swiss teams, Group/Swiss Tax, and business units to ensure compliance with appropriate statutory accounting treatments and year-end statements.

In addition, the Accounting Manager will design, automate, and implement processes related to US tariffs documentation requirements, ensuring end-to-end service delivery. This role guarantees the quality and effectiveness of these processes, ensuring that systems, documentation, compliance, and reporting are in place.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure complete and accurate accounting during monthly close processes and general ledger accounting activities throughout the month.
  • Provide input for the accounting of complex and specific transactions, including documentation in Accounting Position Papers (APPs).
  • Offer functional guidance from an accounting perspective for business transactions while interacting proactively within FRA/NOC and Divisions to ensure accurate accounting and financial reporting.
  • Guarantee high quality and timely monthly (FCRS) reporting and prepare statutory reporting.
  • Manage the execution of strategies for the US tariff project, ensuring operational oversight and a customer-focused approach.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders by providing regular updates on project status and addressing any issues that arise.
  • Lead and manage project teams to ensure successful project delivery, developing and implementing project plans that include timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure all processes, policies, and procedures are clearly defined and fully documented.
  • Maintain compliance with Novartis Accounting Manual (NAM), Novartis Financial Controls Manual (NFCM), and regulatory requirements by documenting processes and ensuring adherence to established standards.
  • Drive and monitor improvements to achieve a highly effective and efficient accounting and reporting process, identifying cost reduction opportunities through process harmonization and standardization.
  • Contribute to global initiatives, such as the Global SAP S/HANA implementation Lean Digital Core (LDC).

Minimum Requirements

  • University degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, or Chartered Accountant.
  • Preferred: Swiss Certified Public Accountant or Swiss Expert in Financial and Managerial Accounting and Reporting.
  • 5-8 years of relevant work experience, including a minimum of 3 years in Big 4 and/or Public Accounting roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multinational organization.
  • Experience in managing projects that drive performance improvements.
  • Knowledge of IFRS and Swiss statutory reporting.
  • Proficient in SAP.
