The Biotechnology and Bioengineering group at the Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering (D-BSSE) of ETH Zurich in Basel is seeking innovative scientists eager to make a difference. The D-BSSE represents a unique convergence of various fields of study within the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, ETH Zurich. Its mission is to drive advancements in Systems Biology, Biotechnology, and Synthetic Biology. Project Background

Our group employs state-of-the-art Synthetic Biology methodologies to engineer human cells and develop advanced gene and cell therapies with a focus on addressing cancer, metabolic disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, autoimmune conditions, and infectious diseases. Job Description

We are engaged in an exciting project aimed at harnessing synthetic biology tools to develop novel AAV-based therapies. Our focus is on enhancing safety, efficacy, and production scalability of these therapies. We are committed to overcoming significant challenges in the gene therapy landscape, including large-scale AAV vector production and engineering therapies that dynamically respond to disease symptoms, ensuring optimal therapeutic protein levels. As part of our team, you will play a vital role in developing, validating, and integrating these technologies while helping to shape the roadmap for clinical translation.

Profile

We seek exceptional scientists who are enthusiastic about commercializing startup technologies. The ideal candidate is a creative and highly motivated scientist who thrives in a dynamic scientific environment and is eager to implement pioneering technologies. Additionally, you should possess:

  • A PhD in synthetic biology, bioengineering, biotechnology, or a related field
  • A proven track record and publication history in academia or industry
  • Experience in mammalian cell engineering, AAV vector design, production and purification, synthetic gene circuits and inducible expression systems, high-throughput screening, advanced molecular cloning, and in vivo preclinical models
  • A strong entrepreneurial mindset
  • A collaborative and motivated attitude
