ABOUT SWEMCO AG
SWEMCO AG is a Zurich-based family office focused on natural resources, making strategic investments across various assets in Africa and the Middle East. Our firm seamlessly combines a long-term ownership perspective with a hands-on approach to operational and financial management in frontier-market jurisdictions.
THE ROLE
We are in search of a sharp and driven Senior Financial Analyst to join our small but dedicated team based in Zurich. In this role, you will collaborate closely with senior management and shareholders, taking ownership of financial models, supporting investment decisions, and delivering rigorous portfolio analysis. This position will require regular travel to operating sites and partner locations in Africa, the Middle East, and the US.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Build, maintain, and stress-test detailed financial models covering life-of-mine plans, project valuations, and portfolio scenarios.
- Prepare investment analyses, business cases, and financial due diligence for new opportunities and ongoing investments.
- Monitor portfolio performance: track actuals against budgets, flag variances, and produce clear management reporting.
- Support the structuring of project finance transactions, including debt sizing, cash flow modeling, and covenant analysis.
- Analyze the financial impact of regulatory changes, currency movements, and commodity price fluctuations across operating jurisdictions.
- Conduct research into developing-country fiscal regimes, currency controls, and investment frameworks relevant to existing and prospective investments.
- Prepare materials for lenders, investors, and the Board, translating complex analysis into clear, decision-ready outputs.
- Travel to operating sites and partner meetings as required to gather ground-level data and support local teams.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Essential
- 5–8 years of experience in financial analysis, investment analysis, project finance, or a related field.
- Exceptional financial modeling skills - you can build models from scratch and understand every assumption within them.
- Experience working with, or a strong interest in, developing-country markets: currency risk, regulatory complexity, and frontier-market dynamics.
- Strong analytical mindset: comfortable with ambiguous data, multiple scenarios, and fast-changing operating environments.
- Solid understanding of core investment analysis metrics (IRR, NPV, MOIC, payback period) and their application in financial modeling and investment evaluation.
- Willingness to travel extensively, including to remote and challenging locations.
Advantageous
- Background in natural resources, mining, energy, construction, or infrastructure finance.
- Familiarity with project finance structures, DFI lending, and commodity-backed facilities.
- Knowledge of regulatory and fiscal environments.
WHO YOU ARE
- Intellectually curious and self-directed - you ask questions and find answers independently.
- Calm and effective in complex, unpredictable environments - you adapt quickly when conditions change.
- Precise and thorough in your work, yet able to communicate clearly and concisely to non-technical audiences.
- Energized by frontier markets and the practical challenges that arise from working within them.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Competitive compensation package with performance-linked bonus.
- Direct exposure to senior decision-making in a lean, high-impact team.
- A genuinely international role - no two weeks will look the same.
- The opportunity to develop deep expertise in frontier-market resource finance.
